Thursday March 7 was the annual ‘Meet and Inventor Night’ at the University of Utah. I was there as a volunteer for their tabling event. Engineers, scientists, programmers and lawyers were available for the High School students who attended the event to talk to and answer questions. Some of the students were there because they had their hearts set on a technical career; others were there because it was an assignment from a science teacher. No matter the reason they attended, I found them all to be enthusiastic, interested and to ask very good questions.
I was fortunate to meet several parents involved in education. They asked if I would be interested in speaking at their schools. Lecturing at schools has always been a favorite activity. As my own son has grown up, my interaction with the school system as dwindled. I hope this is the beginning of an opportunity to share the thrill I feel about doing engineering with the next generation.
